Full Description:

To help set budget priorities for the 2005-06 fiscal year, Multnomah County has developed strategies in six priority areas. Throughout February, the Multnomah County Citizen Involvement Committee and the City Club of Portland will sponsor six community forums, each one focusing on a different priority area for the County budget. Each forum will begin with comments by a panel of community experts that will provide some information on the County's budget strategies. The panel will be followed by small group discussions where citizens can discuss the budget strategies and provide advice to the County on which programs and services to support in achieving those budgetary goals. The results of those discussions will be provided to the county commissioners. All forums will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Commissioners' Boardroom at the Multnomah County headquarters building, located at 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd. (corner of Grand Avenue and Hawthorne) There is on-street parking, and the building is also served by the number 4, 6, 10 and 14 TriMet bus lines. The six forums are: Tuesday, February 8: Safety Net Services Goal: I want all Multnomah County residents and their families to have their basic living needs met. Wednesday, February 9: Safety Goal: I want to feel safe at home, work, school and at play. Tuesday, February 15: Accountable Government Goal: I want my government to be accountable at every level. Wednesday, February 16: Thriving Economy Goal: I want Multnomah County to have a thriving economy. Tuesday, February 22: Education Goal: I want all children in Multnomah County to succeed in school. Wednesday, February 23: Vibrant Communities Goal: I want to have clean, healthy neighborhoods with a vibrant sense of community. More information on these forums can be found online at www.citizenweb.org/budgetstrategyforums.shtml or by calling Multnomah County's Office of Citizen Involvement at 503-988-3450.
